Meeting Design Week
24-26 June 2019
24-26 June 2019
You will learn about the building blocks Meeting Designers use when designing meeting programmes.
This will be a week of innovation in business and education where Meeting Design is introduced. Lecturers will benefit from Meeting Design Techniques and will be encouraged to identify, educate and foster Meeting Design talent. There will also be a number of networking opportunities between creative talents in businesses, the university and independent professionals.
Your University can cooperate with local Meetings Industry partners to create a program for lecturers, students, meeting professionals and creative talent. At the end of the week, a network of trained professionals can apply the knowledge to business meetings, educational sessions, conferences and day-to-day meetings.
Meeting Design is a relatively new profession. We see Meeting Designers as professionals who work with meetings as a specific means of communication.
Their task is to bring content, objectives and participants’ expectations together, designing a programme that is effective, engaging and conducive towards the organizational objectives.
They work for the Meeting Owner and often partner up with PCO’s, AV Companies, Speakers and Facilitators. Their final consumers are the meeting participants.
Their clients’ desires are the design compass by which they sail.
The Meeting Design Week brings an MD certification Level 1 two-day course to Madrid. The courses will be open to professionals like meeting planners, trainers, consultants, corporate communication managers, live communication designers. They will have the opportunity to dive deep into the nature of meetings, and how to design them.
A closing network event brings meeting planners, academics and corporates together, to embrace design thinking and empower the creative potential of a city.
The Meeting Design Weeks was inspired by the content in the acclaimed book “Into the Heart of Meetings” by Eric de Groot and Mike van der Vijver, This Meeting Design Kick-Off meeting is open for corporate organising teams.
On top of this, local universities will host a novel Education Design workshop for academic teachers. Finally, the Meeting Design Week offers the opportunity to apply Meeting Design on an actual event that is on the agenda in the city.
The Meeting Design Course, Level 1 was the perfect mix of theory and practice with quite challenging group exercises in real world scenarios which really had an impact on the way we will approach events in future. With Mike we had a very experienced expert and mind-set changer and learned a lot about maximizing meeting effectiveness by better activating the bodies and souls who are present.Head of MeetingsGermany

As expected the course was inspiring and refreshing. Lots of input and exercises to stimulate our brains and think out of the box. And both Eric and Mike are very good trainers. I really enjoyed it, and the group was fun, too!Corporate Meeting PlannerAustria

The Meeting Design Course, Level 1 is a strong and deep experience! Now I have got new sharp tools to deal with projects, both when designing events form the start and when it comes to give a little powerful tweak to a meeting already structured. Thanks Eric!Marketing DirectorItaly
The course was really inspiring and productive! I experienced a lot of case histories and shared best practice: very useful in my daily job. Mike & Eric were very nice with us and always ready to suggest one or more solution with their long experience in designing meetings.Independent Meeting PlannerItaly

Eric regularly conducts workshops and learning sessions for professionals in the meeting industry as well as in other educational contexts. Eric was also a former member of the MPI task force: “The Future of Meetings”.
He lives in the Netherlands.
