End of October 2021, 11 meeting design trainees gather in Evenia Hotel Rosselló in Barcelona to explore the design of strategic meetings. Trainer is Eric de Groot, one of MindMeeting’s managing partners and meeting designers. See the programme details: Meeting Design Course Level 3 Barcelona, Spain
The course starts with collectively setting the rules of engagement for the course. Triggered by the question “How can we make the most out of this course?” the group defines how to deal with:
Next is an in-depth exploration of the meaning of ‘strategic’ and how it differs from operational and tactical, in the framework of designing meetings. This part concludes with defining how a meeting owners intrinsically look at meeting participant roles and responsibilities. This varies from consumers of the program to strategic partners and has a pivotal influence on the design of the program.
From here, the conversation with the meeting owner gets full attention. Analysis, role play, wording and consultancy skills are covered, helping the trainees to improve their designer capabilities.
In a next section, MindMeetings’ Design Board notion of The Working is targeted. This results in a series of design exercises to create formats that are aligned with different meeting goals.
The first day finishes with a glorious Tapas dinner on a cosy terrace in a Barcelonan street.
The second day focusses on practicing the conversation a designer needs to have with the Meeting Owner. Intense roleplay, both hilarious and educational, allows the trainees to get to the next level of this crucial stage in designing strategic meetings. The context of the commissioning party, in which the design takes place, gets the attention it needs.
This contextualisation includes things like the personality of the CEO and alignment with organisational culture.
Approaching the end of the course, the trainer asks trainees to assess themselves in a number of skills needed to be a valuable designer. Key is the life-long learning character of this profession.
The course’s end is an exercise to formulate a message for a Board of Directors, expressing the value of meeting design dedicated to strategic objectives.
Signing 11 certificates completes 2 days of intense training. Thank you all for participating!
